ArabTranslators.org is the official website of Arab Professional Translators Society. Membership is open to Arabic speaking linguists only. The Society is registered in Willisau, Switzerland as a non-profit organization. Our head office is in Beirut, Lebanon. |

|

|
TranslationU.com is the resources website for both ArabTranslators.org and FreeLinguists.com. Members of both websites are invited to use TranslationU's Forums and Knowledgebase. The main purpose of TranslationU is to serve as a medium through which Arab and non-Arab linguists can exchange knowledge and experience. Expert linguists are invited to teach others, as volunteers or with compensation. Experts who decide to teach on TranslationU.com are kindly requested to coordinate with our eLearning Section (teaching@translationu.com). |

What is Glossaries.org? |
|
Glossaries.org is a website developed to provide a home for all types of online glossaries and dictionaries in all languages. Linguists are invited to send us their glossaries to be uploaded to the site. If your glossary/dictionary is uploaded, when a user searches for a term found in your glossary/dictionary, the term will appear in search results, hyperlinked, with the name of your glossary/dictionary and your name appearing next to it, along with a link to your profile.
Before we receive/upload your glossary/dictionary, we will provide you with a declaration signed by us stating that we undertake to protect your intellectual property rights on our website. The original signed declaration will be sent to you by courier. If you decide to discontinue displaying your glossary/dictionary, we will remove it completely from the site upon your request. The intellectual property rights will always be yours and yours alone. |

Chaiban.org is the website containing all Chaiban Dictionaries in a user-friendly searchable database. Chaiban Dictionaries are written and published by Dr. Nabil Chaiban and Pharmacist Mrs. Dina Kanj Chaiban. |

How to join Arab Professional Translators Society? |
|
You can join Arab Professional Translators Society simply by registering yourself as a "Member" on our website.
However, to become a "Certified Member", you need to take our certification test. Certification tests are given online and/or in-person at one of our affiliated centers in your country of residence.

Whare are the advantages/privileges of a "Certified Member"? |
|
As a "Certified Member", you receive a certificate and a stamp. You can use the stamp to certify your translations, subject to applicable laws. You can also display the "Certified Member" logo on your Linkedin Profile.

Can I obtain a certificate in digital format (PDF, JPG, GIF, etc)? |
|
No. Certificates are issued as hardcopy only. |

How can use the stamp, and where is it accepted? |
|
The stamp is intended for you to certify that the translation was done by you. Acceptance of the stamp for certification is discretionary. The entity receiving your certified translation may accept or reject the stamp at its own discretion. |

Please follow the steps below:
1. Go to the Subgroup, and request to join. [The Subgroup's URL is: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=4143757].
2. Send us an email to members@arabtranslators.org stating your certification number. (Do no send the number using Linkedin Group discussions).
3. We will then check, make sure you are indeed certified, and then approve your request to join.
4. Once the request to join is approved, the logo appears on your Linkedin.com profile page.

Who is eligible to take the APTS Certification Test? |
|
Arabic speaking linguists holding a bachelor degree or higher qualification are eligible to take the test. To apply for the test, please send your CV to members@arabtranslators.org |

How do I get notified of test results? |
|
When you pass the your test, whether taken online or in-person at one of our affiliate centers, you will be contacted with the test results. Test results are (pass or fail). Our testing committee does not discuss test results with members. |

I passed the test. How do I receive my certificate and stamp? |
|
If you pass the test, you will be issued a certified member number, and your name will be listed on our certified members webpages. You can use your number and the URL of the page on which your name appears, to direct your clients to ascertain that you are indeed tested and certified by Arab Professional Translators Society. Our certified members lists are located at the following URL:

I failed. Can I take the certification test again? When? |
|
If you fail the online test, you cannot take it again. If you fail the test taken at one of our affiliated centers, you can repeat the test 30 days later. If you fail the test 3 times, you will not be allowed to take the test again, unless you submit evidence, to the satisfaction of our testing committee, that you have received sufficient education or training which could change the test result. |

What is the content of the test? |
|
Our testing committee decides the content of the test on a case-by-case basis, after assessment of the applicant's qualifications and experience. The online test consists of 10 questions; the applicant is required to take the test within 1 hour after it is sent. The test taken in person at our affiliated centers should take around two hours to complete. |

When can I take the test? |
|
You can apply for the test and take it at any time. |
|

How does the affiliated center administer the test? |
|
Affiliated centers receive test materials by email. The center's officer oversees the member(s) taking the test to ensure compliance with requirements. Members can use dictionaries, the Internet, and any resources as they please to complete the test, just as if they were translating in their own working environment. However, they cannot seek help from any individual.
When the test is completed, the center's officer emails it to the testing committee for evaluation. |

How Long Does a Listing Run? |
|
All listings are free. You can run them for as long as you want. You can also stop the listing at any time by clicking the stop link. |

Do I Have to Register to Create Listings? |
|
Yes. You must be a registered user to create listings. Registration is free. |

I created a listing, but it does not show up in search results. Why? |
|
For security purposes, and to maintain the quality of website content, all listings require Site Administration approval before activation. Once approved, the job listing becomes visible to users and visitors, and you will be free to edit it as required. |

If all my information is private how can a member/client contact me? |
|
When your ad appears, instead of showing your contact information the following appears: "This advertiser has chosen to remain private. You may contact this advertiser via anonymous email by clicking here." The prospective member/client completes an on-line form and the system sends you an email without revealing your information to the prospective member/client. |

How much does it cost to register? |
|
Nothing. Registration is FREE. |

Do I have to register to use the site? |
|
No. You can browse and search ads without registering. You should still register, to save time, as the site will remember various preferences for you. If you want to create ads, you will need to register. Registration is FREE. |

Why is it important to register? |
|
When you register, you will become visible in search results. You will also receive automatic notifications of jobs matching your qualifications that are posted on our Job Board. |

I registered, but I still do not appear in search results? |
|
After registration, you must create a resume. Please read the registration instructions carefully.
To ensure the integrity of our database, we divided the registration process into three steps, as follows:
1. Complete the initial registration form. You will receive an email message confirming your registration, and giving you instructions on step 2.
2. Add your profile. The profile contains basic information about you. Your will receive an email confirmation.
3. Sign-in and create your resume. Once you create your resume, you will become visible to agencies and visitors searching for linguists. |

How do I create a resume? |
|

How can I appear in the Featured Linguist section on the Home page? |
|
Only members who have registered as "Linguist" or as both "Linguist and Agency" and who have uploaded a Photo will appear in the freatured linguist section on the Home page, with a link to the member's profile. Selections are made at random when the Home page is refereshed. |

I was registered in the previous website. Do I need to register again? |
|
Yes. The previous website used a different software and database structure, and was intended to simply show the member's profile.
The new website is a complete Job Board with full functionality similar to what you find on Proz.com or other major translation job boards. |
